Radio-Shop Proud to Support Cycle GB Charity Bike Ride
In 2016 a team of 20 riders took on the challenge of cycling 540 miles from Glasgow to Kent. The aim of the ride was to raise as much sponsorship and awareness possible for the Benenden Charitable Trust and SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health) - you can find out more about these charities further down the page.
The riders consisted of staff from Benenden in York and Keegan & Pennykid in Edinburgh and they split into two teams:
The first team rode 240 miles over 3 days - Glasgow > Longtown > Durham > York.
The second team then took over and rode 300 miles over 4 days - York > Lincoln > Peterborough > Cheshunt > Benenden.
When we heard that Benenden were organising this event we wanted to help out, we offered to loan the team a number of Hytera PD365 Digital Two Way Radios. Both the riders and the support team in cars used the radios to keep in constant contact with each other.
These radios were the perfect size for the riders to put them in the pockets of their jackets and with the Hytera PTT earpieces we also provided, it meant that they were much easier to use as the riders didn't have to take the radios out of their pockets to use, they simply needed to press the button on the microphone of their earpiece.
Here's Thom Craigen, organiser of the event, using one of the Hytera PD365 Two Way Radios.
The team have raised an incredible £27,000 to be split between the Benenden Charitable Trust and SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health). Here is some information on these charities:
Benenden Charitable Trust helps people in financial need as a result of sickness, infirmity, disability and any other medical condition. In its first ten years, the charity granted over £650,000 to individuals in need, providing breathing space grants and helping to pay for life changing surgery and specialist equipment.
SAMH
Established in 1923, SAMH currently operates over 60 services in communities across Scotland. These services, together with our national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention, sport and physical activity; inform our policy work to influence positive social change. With direct support to over 4,000 people annually and a supporter base of over 10,000 people, we aim to represent the voice of people most affected by mental health issues.
